(KYTX)-East Texas doctors are already starting to see more cases of the flu and it's not even Thanksgiving.
Coughing, runny nose, muscle aches, fever and nausea. Those are symptoms all too common this time of year.
"Well it looks like I got the flu," patient Hubert Wright said.
Wright is just one patient in the increasing number of flu cases this season, so local hospitals and doctors offices are getting ready.
"We're gearing up, we're very ready. we hope it's not as overwhelming but we're expecting the worst so we're ready," Trinity Mother Frances Dr. Ricardo Vega said.
That might not be necessary. According to NET Health, more people have gotten the flu shot this year and if you haven't yet, you still can.
"We have stock of it, pharmacies have stock of it, your healthcare providers have stock of it so take advantage of that," NET Health CEO George Roberts said.
If you've already been vaccinated, there are still steps you can take to stay healthy.
"Keep washing your hands, using antibacterial materials, keep your surfaces clean," Roberts said.
If you do think you have flu symptoms, get to a doctor fast.
"It's important if you think you do have the virus to be seen in 48 hours because the information that's out there is in support of getting treatment as soon as possible," Dr. Vega said.
That's what Wright did, but what he didn't do this year was get a flu shot, which he says is a mistake.
"Go ahead and do what you need to do, get the vaccine, if you're prone to getting sick or out a lot, just go ahead and do it," Wright said.
That's the message this flu season, just get your shot.
