Casting on a new X-Men movie is heating up and we’ve got the info for you right now! It looks like the X-Men cast could be getting yet another Game of Thrones star. While Batman has been busy battling Superman and the Marvel Cinematic Universe is preparing for Civil War, the folks over at Fox have been busy creating their own massive comic book universe with their X-Men franchise. Deadpool sleighed all expectations earlier this year becoming one of the biggest comic book movies of all-time and this summer the X-Men will once again unite to take on Apocalypse. While the planned Gambit movie continues to run into delays and we have one final Hugh Jackman outing as Wolverine to look forward to, another team of X-Men has been quickly gaining momentum. Earlier this week, X-Men producer Simon Kinberg spoke to IGN and gave an update on the planned New Mutants movie revealing director Josh Boone and writing partner Kante Gwaltney are currently busy working on the script saying quote, “They’re doing a really nice job of it and it’s a really cool one, because in many way, like Deadpool was so different from the mainline X-Men movies, New Mutants…It’s maybe not as different as Deadpool, but it has its own unique, original voice to it.” Kinberg went on to say that the film will have a “Young Adult” vibe. While the film doesn’t currently have a release date, HitFix brings word today that several actors may have already been cast. According to the site, Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams will play “Wolfsbane” in the film, a Scottish mutant with the power to turn into a wolf. As you’re probably aware, Williams’ Game of Thrones co-star, Sophie Turner, is already set to join the X-Men as a young “Jean Grey” in Apocalypse. In addition to Williams, HitFix reports that The Witch star Anya Taylor-Joy has been cast as “Magik”, sister to X-Men member “Colossus” with the powers of teleportation, astral projection and various other magical powers. Other new cast members reported to be included in the film, but not yet cast are Mirage, Sunspot and Cannonball. The site also claims that James McAvoy’s “Professor Xavier” and Alexandra Shipp’s “Storm”, who will make her debut in this summer’s Apocalypse, will play a large role in the film with Storm becoming a member of the team. For those of you unfamiliar with the New Mutants, they were a team of teenage mutants that first debuted in the early 80’s that were eventually relaunched as X-Force. While the plot of the film is unclear, the addition of Shipp’s “Storm” suggest the film could take place in the 80s shortly after the events of Apocalypse with members of the team, like Cannonball, leaving to form the X-Force movie in the present day. One big question mark though is the inclusion of “Sunspot”, who appeared as a young adult in the future version of Days of Future Past. Similar to Angel in Apocalypse, it will be interesting to see if the film attempts to explain this or not. So, what do you think of these rumored casting picks for the New Mutants movie and are you happy with the potential team? Share your thoughts in the comments and then click here to find out what we want to see happen in X-Men Apocalypse when it arrives in theaters on May 27th.
